According to preliminary statistics of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of October, Vietnam exported 9,039 tons of pepper, total export turnover reached 58.3 million USD.

Thus, Vietnam’s pepper exports from the beginning of the year to mid-October reached 209,933 tons, with a turnover of 1.05 billion USD, down 1.9% in volume but up 47% in turnover compared to the same period last year. period last year.

Previously, Vietnam’s pepper exports set a record turnover of 1.4 billion USD in 2016. However, farmers in many provinces have massively expanded pepper growing areas, even in places where Suitable for this type of tree, production increases sharply, supply exceeds demand, leading to prices continuously falling sharply.

At times, pepper prices fell below cost, farmers suffered heavy losses, significantly narrowed their areas or switched to other crops. This leads to pepper exports in the period 2018 – 2023 falling below 1 billion USD and moving away from this mark.

However, with the recovery in prices, after only 9.5 months of this year, pepper exports have surpassed the 1 billion USD mark and it is still possible to further increase export turnover in the last two months of the year. .

The US is still the main export market in the first half of October, accounting for 31.7% of the market share with a volume of 2,865 tons.

Meanwhile, Olam was the largest export enterprise in the past period, reaching 1,424 tons, accounting for 15.8%. Next are Nedspice Vietnam enterprises: 945 tons, Phuc Sinh: 793 tons, Tran Chau: 761 tons and Lien Thanh: 578 tons.

Also in the first 15 days of October, Vietnam had import 2,295 tons of pepper of all kinds, total turnover reached 13.7 million USD. Of which, Indonesia is the main pepper supplier to Vietnam, accounting for 79.5% of the volume with 1,824 tons.

The main importing enterprises during the period included: Pearl: 407 tons, Harris Spice: 360 tons, Phuc Sinh: 350 tons, Olam Vietnam: 342 tons and Phuc Thinh: 327 tons.
