According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of October, Vietnam exported 9,039 tons of pepper, total export turnover reached 58.3 million USD. Previously, VPSA said that in the first 9 months of the year, Vietnam exported 200,894 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 177,953 tons, white pepper reached 22,941 tons. Total export turnover reached 991 million USD, of which black pepper reached 781.9 million USD, white pepper reached 142.1 million USD.
Compared to the same period in 2023, export volume will decrease by 1.7%; However, export turnover increased by 46.1%. The average export price of black pepper in 9 months reached 4,852 USD/ton, white pepper reached 6,461 USD/ton, up 40.9% for black pepper and 30.4% for white pepper respectively over the same period last year.
Thus, from the beginning of the year to October 15, pepper exports reached 209,933 tons of pepper of all kinds; Total export turnover exceeded the 1 billion USD mark and reached 1.0493 billion USD.
In the opposite direction, in the first 15 days of October 2024, Vietnam imported 2,295 tons, total import turnover reached 13.7 million USD. Indonesia is the main pepper supplier to Vietnam, accounting for 79.5%, reaching 1,824 tons.
Thus, from the beginning of the year to October 15, Vietnam imported 26,073 tons of pepper, total import turnover reached 115.7 million USD.
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) forecasts that world pepper prices will remain high in the short term due to limited supply. Brazil and Indonesia are in the harvest season, while world demand is not increasing strongly, along with China not buying much, leading to only a slight increase in prices.
However, in the long term, export pepper prices will still be supported, because Vietnam’s output of this product in the 2025 crop is expected to decrease. The 2025 pepper crop in Vietnam will be harvested almost entirely in February, with some regions lasting until March and April, 1-2 months later than previous years due to the impact of prolonged drought. …
Domestic pepper prices today increased by 500 – 1,000 VND/kg in some provinces and cities, fluctuating between 143,000 – 144,500 VND/kg.
Among them, traders in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces are purchasing black pepper at the highest price of 144,500 VND/kg; Dong Nai province and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province are purchasing pepper at a price of 143,500 VND/kg; In Binh Phuoc and Gia Lai, pepper prices are being purchased at the lowest level of 143,000 VND/kg.
On the world market, the price of Lampung Indonesian black pepper is listed at 6,794 USD/ton; Brazilian black pepper price ASTA 570 was traded at 6,400 USD/ton. In Malaysia, Kuching black pepper price was flat at 8,700 USD/ton; Vietnam’s export price of black pepper 500 g/l and 550 g/l is in the range of 6,500 – 6,800 USD/ton; Muntok Indonesian white pepper price was stable at 9,302 USD/ton, Vietnamese white pepper reached 11,200 USD/ton. White pepper prices in Malaysia were flat at 11,200 USD/ton.
