Last May, a number of member companies in the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association sold pepper to a customer named Mafipro SDN BHD located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia through a shipping agent. in District 4, City. However, when the goods arrived at the Malaysian port, the shipment was fraudulently taken out of the port while the shipper still kept the original Bill of Lading, meaning the procedure had not been completed.

A representative of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that currently the case has not yet had an official conclusion, and details of the fraud have not been announced because it is still under investigation.

Currently, three companies have been scammed like this. The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association recommends that businesses be more careful when working with the above partners, especially first-time partners. pandemic.

According to preliminary data from the General Department of Customs, in September 2024, Vietnam exported 20,000 tons of pepper, earning 125 million USD, an increase of 10.4% in volume but a jump in value of 84.9% compared to the previous year. same period last year. Cumulatively until the end of September, pepper exports reached 203,000 tons, earning more than 1 billion USD, down 1.5% in volume but up 46.9% in value. The reason is because export pepper prices increased sharply by 49.2% over the same period last year, to 4,941 USD/ton.

Notably, last September, the average price of exported “black gold” products reached 6,239 USD/ton, up 67.5% compared to the same month last year and this is also the month that recorded high export prices. most in many years. Rising pepper prices also cause commercial fraud cases to increase
