Vinh Linh district is the locality with the largest pepper growing area in Quang Tri with over 1,290 hectares under harvest, accounting for about 50% of the total area of this crop in the province. Pepper is harvested from around June to mid-July every year.

The total pepper output of Vinh Linh district in this season reached about 1,680 tons. In particular, pepper prices have increased and tend to continue to increase. The brand “Quang Tri Pepper” is already famous for its unique aroma and spicy taste, popular with domestic and foreign markets. To sustainably develop pepper, the province’s agricultural sector has been replicating the organic pepper production model.
Accordingly, participating in organic pepper production, farmers do not use inorganic fertilizers, only take advantage of organic fertilizers from livestock to fertilize pepper, and at the same time use biological products to replace pesticides. object. Organic pepper production model, each hectare has a yield of 1.1 – 1.2 tons/crop, has stable output, high selling price, and higher profits of 80 – 100 million VND/ha much more than traditional pepper growing.
In addition, pepper growers in Quang Tri also focus on applying science and technology to production such as using automatic water-saving watering systems combined with fertilization; Applying high technology to preliminary processing and preservation of black pepper, white pepper, and five-color pepper products to improve quality and meet export standards to many countries.
Quang Tri pepper has been granted geographical indication. Accordingly, in 2014, the Intellectual Property Department issued a Geographical Indication Registration Certificate for pepper in Ho Xa town and communes: Vinh Hien, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Nam in Vinh Linh district. In April 2018, the Intellectual Property Department expanded the geographical indication certification area for pepper in Quang Tri, by adding pepper growing areas in the following districts: Cam Lo; Gio Linh; Vinh Linh and Huong Hoa are certified geographical indications…
