Retailers are optimistic about 2024 sales forecasts as durian demand remains strong in China.

Durian still maintains a good selling price in China, becoming the fruit with the highest export value in the structure of agricultural products exported to China by Thailand and Vietnam.

According to HSBC Bank, China accounts for 91% of global durian demand. Durian is increasingly consumed by people, from fresh, frozen durian and processed by the industry into many bakery products, candy, food, drinks…

Last year, China imported up to 6.7 billion USD of durian. Vietnam’s exports to China increased dramatically, with 2.1 billion USD, accounting for 31% of the market share in China.

In China, the fresh durian market is a major competition between Thailand and Vietnam. In the first few months of the year, Vietnam’s durian exports increased sharply to China, some months reaching number 1 in the world when Thai durians were not yet fully harvested.

Recently, Thailand has increasingly introduced fresh Musang King durians to conquer the Chinese market in addition to long-standing traditional durians.
