The US sponsored more than 100 billion VND to improve fertilizer use efficiency, increase farmers’ income and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rice cultivation.

On the morning of April 9, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to launch a project on correct fertilizer use.

The project will be implemented in 4 years with an expected budget of 4.4 million USD (more than 100 billion VND), sponsored by the Department of Foreign Agricultural Affairs (under USDA). The project is implemented in 3 provinces of the Red River Delta (Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh) and 3 provinces of the Mekong Delta (Can Tho, Dong Thap and Soc Trang).

Through the project, it will help farmers increase their responsibility to use fertilizer effectively, avoiding wasting billions of dong. Project activities are built and implemented based on the 4 right principles (4Rs) in nutrition management, including: requiring the use of the right type, in the right ratio, at the right time and in the right place.

Experts from the US Department of Agriculture, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Vietnamese scientists guide farmers in implementing the project.

Rice growers will have access to techniques, advanced technology applications and precision agricultural practices to optimally use inputs including fertilizers in rice cultivation, so that good experiences can be replicated in rice farming. country.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, through this project, farmers will improve fertilizer use efficiency, increase their income and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in rice growing from using correct fertilizers.
