Changing the use of inorganic fertilizers to organic fertilizers is considered the optimal solution, moving towards building a safe, quality, effective and sustainable agricultural production.
Development is not commensurate with potential
According to statistics, the amount of fertilizer used in agricultural production in Vietnam is about 10 million tons/year and 75% of it is inorganic fertilizer. Our country’s fertilizer use level is higher than many countries and three times the world average.
Unbalanced and improper fertilization is the main cause of low fertilizer use efficiency, only reaching 40-45% for nitrogen fertilizer, 25-30% for phosphate fertilizer and 55-60% for potassium fertilizer. This causes economic loss, soil pollution, water pollution, increased greenhouse gas emissions and affects the quality of agricultural products. For sustainable agricultural production, it is necessary to use a balance between organic and inorganic fertilizers.
In addition to providing stable nutrients for plants, organic fertilizers also improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil, limit leaching, and increase soil permeability and water holding capacity. soil, increasing drought tolerance for plants.
The number of organic fertilizer products (including biofertilizers) that have been recognized for circulation in our country is currently about more than 7,000 products, accounting for 27% of the total number of fertilizers that have been recognized for circulation. The current organic fertilizer production capacity is 4.8 million tons/year. However, in reality the fertilizer industry can only meet about 10-25% of the demand for organic fertilizer.
Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fertilizer Association Phung Ha said that in recent years, organic fertilizer development has not been commensurate with its potential. The main reason is that our country does not have strong policies to encourage investment in research, transfer of science and technology, production and use of organic fertilizers, and reduction of inorganic fertilizer use. In addition, there is a lack of specific orientation to encourage local authorities and authorities to prioritize and support capital, land, etc. for organic fertilizer factories. Many localities do not really pay attention to the management of fertilizer use, and do not have policies to encourage the use of organic fertilizers, leading to not attracting businesses to invest in production as well as people to use fertilizers. Organic. Besides a few facilities that have invested in modern organic fertilizer production technology, there are still many facilities that use rudimentary production lines, low automation, and microbiological technology in organic fertilizer production. is still low… leading to low production capacity, organic matter content as well as fertilizer quality.
Increase the rate of organic fertilizer use to more than 30% by 2030
In order to build sustainable, responsible agriculture, towards circularity and green growth, recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a project to develop the production and use of organic fertilizers to 2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, we will exploit the potential and advantages of available organic materials to produce organic fertilizer, with the goal of increasing the percentage of allowed organic fertilizer products by 2030. Circulation increased to more than 30% of the total number of fertilizer products. Increase organic fertilizer production capacity of qualified production facilities to 5 million tons/year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the coming time the agricultural sector will focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management of fertilizers. In particular, completing the system of standards and technical regulations, improving the capacity of the testing system. Develop and diversify organic fertilizer products. Create favorable conditions for the registration and recognition of circulation of organic fertilizers in cases where testing is not required according to legal regulations to develop a rich set of fertilizer products, diverse in quantity and type. Develop and replicate organic fertilizer production technologies.
Raise awareness of people, business establishment owners, manufacturing enterprises and local management officials. Promote scientific research and technology transfer. Deploy models of organic fertilizer use and build a chain of links. Promote the use of agricultural by-products and household-scale fertilizer production. Prioritize and focus on investigating and evaluating the current status of management and use of raw material sources for domestic organic fertilizer production. Review and propose the development of specific policies to encourage and support the development of production and use of organic fertilizers.
