The conference aims to help farmers understand new regulations from the international market, leading to the need to adjust farming processes accordingly. According to information from the Vietnam Pepper Association, the global pepper area is 745,000 hectares in 2021, an increase of 42.8% compared to 2020. In Vietnam, pepper area decreased significantly due to sharp declines in prices, impact of epidemics and climate change, from 152,000 hectares in 2017 to 130,000 hectares in 2021. Over the past decade, Vietnam’s pepper industry has gone through periods of ups and downs, at one point reaching a peak near 230,000 VND/kg, at one point the price dropped to 34,000 VND/kg.
