GENERAL SITUATION
In the first 11 months of the year, Vietnam’s exports of agro-forestry-fishery products to the ASEAN market accounted for 17.51% of Vietnam’s total AFF exports. The value of Vietnam’s AFF exports to ASEAN countries reached nearly 4.3 billion USD, up 24.39% over the same period in 2021, while imports reached 6.53 billion USD, up 7.69% compared to the same period in 2021. in the same period last year. In November 2022 alone, AFF export turnover reached $350.25 million, down 10.69% over the previous month and down 6.94% over the same period in 2021.
The main export items of Vietnam to ASEAN in November 2022 are rice (accounting for 41%), seafood (17%), coffee (accounting for 9%); wood and wood products (accounting for 7%); vegetables (accounting for 6%). Compared with November 2021, there were 4/13 AFF products with an increase in export turnover, the highest being cassava and cassava products (up 268.57%), coffee (up 53.32%); tea (up 30.88%); rice (up 14.70%)… 9/13 items tended to decrease, the biggest decrease was animal feed and raw materials (down 46.51%); rubber (down 44.69%); fertilizers of all kinds (down 34.86%)….Details are in the attached appendix).
The rice import tax rate of 35% previously offered by the Philippine Government is expected to expire at the end of 2022. However, with the Philippines facing the highest inflation in the past 14 years, the Government of this country. decided to extend the application period of this tax until the end of December 31, 2023. Import duties on corn and pork products will remain unchanged at 5 – 15% and 15 – 25%. Import tax on coal, the main fuel in power generation, will temporarily remain at 0% until the end of next year but can be adjusted depending on the actual situation.
The Philippines has allowed Egyptian citrus fruit access to the Philippine market after two years of negotiations. Egypt is expected to export other fruits and vegetables such as potatoes and grapes to the Philippines and welcomes imports of Philippine agricultural crops.
Philippine vegetable production (excluding potatoes) increased in the third quarter of 2022 despite a decrease in planted area. Tomato production grew the most with 6.1% to 29,652.30 tons; eggplant increased 2.3% to 38,630.62 tons; sweet potatoes increased 2.2% to 138,678.02 tons; onions increased 1.7% to 23.3 tons, etc.
According to a report by Far Eastern Agricultural, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of USD 93 million to enhance shrimp farming by smallholders in seven regions in Indonesia. Small scale shrimp, including more than 1,000 female farmers, will benefit from improved infrastructure and capacity. Some 35,000 small farmers – including about 7,000 women – will benefit from increased access to quality inputs and capacity building programs on sustainable and adaptive aquaculture. climate.
