Thereby, I saved it for a considerable amount to invest in this year’s crop, but now the price of fertilizer and other associated costs has increased rapidly, so it is forced to reduce the planting area, leading to a decrease in productivity and output.
The price of coffee in the country is currently on a downward trend, not at a stable level like at the beginning of 2022. Many other farmers like me reduce their planting output to save on fertilizer, irrigation and labor costs.
Sharing the same sentiment, another coffee gardener in Krong Nang district said: “I am preparing to harvest about 5ha of coffee but I am thinking of saving as much as possible because of the skyrocketing fertilizer price and the high rent. The same goes for workers. If you don’t carefully measure each item, there may be little profit left, useless effort.”
Mr. Le Duc Huy – General Director of Dak Lak 2-9 Import-Export Company Limited (belonging to Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee) – said: “In 2022, export turnover of agricultural products, especially coffee The unit’s coffee reached 243 million USD, reaching 189.5% of the plan, the highest in the province.The high export coffee output in 2022 put a lot of pressure on the company because of the domestic and foreign markets. The price of coffee was previously at 48,000 VND/kg, now it is only 41,000 VND/kg, down about 15%.
Currently, the unit in particular and other coffee businesses in the area in general are still lacking capital to buy goods from farmers. Bank interest rates are 3 times higher but still difficult to disburse for businesses. Or if there is money to buy, the interest rate is as high as it is now, so the collection of goods for people is only low, but cannot be as high as usual. In addition, the price of fertilizer increased by 2 to 3 times, causing the coffee production of people in the province to decrease by about 10% compared to the 2022 crop.”
