The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) quoted statistics from the General Department of Customs as saying that in September 2022, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Spain reached 5.24,000 tons, worth 13.1 million tons. USD, down 14.4% in volume and 7.1% in value compared to August 2022, up 11.5% in volume and 37.4% in value compared to September 2021.

Generally, in the first nine months of 2022, Vietnam’s coffee exports to Spain reached 71.7 thousand tons, worth USD 160.81 million, up 40.4% in volume and 63.4% in value. compared to the same period in 2021.

In September 2022, the average export price of Vietnam’s coffee to Spain reached $2,496/ton, up 8.6% compared to August 2022 and 16.9% higher than September 2021. In the first nine months of 2022, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to Spain reached $2,245 per ton, up 16.7% over the same period in 2021.

Spain increased its coffee imports from most of its domestic and foreign sources, with the exception of Indonesia and the Netherlands. Spain’s average import price of coffee increased from most of the external sources, but decreased from the intra-regional supply.

According to Eurostat, Spain’s coffee imports from outside the EU in the first seven months of 2022 reached 165.73 thousand tons, worth 524.1 million euros, up 17.4% in volume and up 100.8. % in value. In which, Vietnam is the largest foreign supplier to Spain, with an import volume of 67.2 thousand tons, worth EUR 152 million, up 18.3% in volume and 79.3% in value.

Vietnam’s coffee market share accounted for 30.14% of Spain’s total imports in the first 7 months of 2022, lower than the 30.46% market share in the first 7 months of 2021.

According to the survey, 87% of the Spanish population between the ages of 18 and 64 drink coffee and 70% drink coffee daily. The average is 2.2 cups/day and the preferred place is at home (61%), followed by a bar or restaurant (26%) and the workplace (21%).
