The Kalimirch Vyaapari Association (KVA) in Madhya Pradesh has urged the Kerala Food Safety Authority trustees to expedite the investigation into the adulteration of pepper in the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange warehouses in Keral and submit early report.
In a letter sent to Mr. Biju Brabhakar, Kerala Food Safety Commissioner, the Association highlighted the delay of more than five months in the quality inspection of sealed black pepper at the authorized warehouse of the NCDEX Exchange which is in question. There are traces of mineral oil in the pepper. Volume 6,800 tons pepper currently being sealed at a warehouse worth up to Rs 300 million.
In December 2012, the Food Safety Authority carefully sealed a large volume of pepper after complaints about traces of mineral oil in pepper delivered at the warehouse by the Distribution Floor. The agency assigned the Spices Board to conduct the test on the entire 6,800 tons rather than take a random sample. This designation was made after the board submitted a report stating the quality was over 1000 tons pepper at the warehouse are tested to meet the standards.
“We want to draw your attention… on the whole issue because it can have a serious financial impact on KVA members. KVA members are under severe mental pressure due to delay (in investigation),” said Pradeep Acharya, vice president of the association.
Through this letter, the members of the Association requested the Spices Board to submit inspection reports pepper as soon as possible. This is an appropriate request of KVA members.
Previously, the Association filed a petition with the Madhya Pradesh High Court and the Ministry of Home Affairs against the NCDEX Exchange, the National Securities Depository, and the Depository Service Center about the transfer contracts. pepper Default expires January 5th.
