According to the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Quang Tri province, up to now, prolonged cold rain has caused hundreds of hectares of pepper in the area to be flooded and diseased and dead.

Pepper trees in Quang Tri are infected with many root rot diseases, yellow leaves and then die.

Currently, the situation is still very complicated and is likely to increase sharply in the near future… Mr. Truong Quang Thang, Co My village, Vinh Giang commune (Vinh Linh – Quang Tri), pointed to his pepper garden sadly: “My family has 4 sao of pepper, but now almost every garden is sick, the worst is this garden. The whole garden has 110 pepper plants, now almost all of them are dead. The disease happened very quickly within about 10 days, the leaves turned yellow, wilted and then died. Many other pepper growing households in the area also fall into the same situation. Due to the rapid development of the epidemic, people could not keep up. In addition, the continuous cold and rainy weather caused the disease to spread quickly and spread on a large scale.

According to Vinh Giang Commune People’s Committee, there are about 50 hectares of pepper affected by the disease. Mr. Le Vy, Vice Chairman of Vinh Giang Commune People’s Committee, said that after the storms No. 4, 10, 12 and especially the recent cold spell, the situation of death in the commune is very large. In particular, in some households, 100% of pepper plants died, especially in new planting gardens, gardens with high groundwater that cannot drain.

According to the report of the Sub-Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Quang Tri province, 300 hectares of pepper have been flooded causing root rot, leaf loss and tree death; more than 223 hectares died of diseases quickly, of which 23.5 hectares were severely affected and 282 hectares of pepper were slow to die… Mainly concentrated in Gio Linh, Vinh Linh, Cam Lo districts with severe cases such as Vinh Giang. , Vinh Thach, Vinh Thanh…

According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Director of the Quang Tri Plantation and Plant Protection Sub-Department, the biggest limitation of Quang Tri farmers is still using the method of growing “negative” pepper under the ground. In addition, the opening of sewers and drainage ditches in pepper gardens is almost uninterested by most households. Most of the pepper areas when there is heavy rain and flooding occurs, the water cannot be drained, this is the cause of the disease.
