In the past two days, Chinese traders appeared in key pepper growing areas in the southern provinces and continuously sent people to agents to order. They urge dealers to collect them quickly “in time for the shipment” so the price of black pepper bucket has increased hot. According to purchasing agents in different places, in the competitive market of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the price of black pepper fluctuates at 59,000 – 60,000 VND/kg, in Binh Phuoc it also accelerates to 60,000 VND/kg. kg, Dak Lak – Dak Nong remained stable at 59,000 VND/kg while in Gia Lai 58,000 VND/kg was difficult to buy.
Despite such a high price, buyers prefer consignments with high weight and grain of Vinh Linh pepper variety rather than Indian pepper varieties. Agents who have familiar goods, do business regularly with Chinese traders, said that they often prefer high-volume shipments, sent to Hainan to process white pepper to sell to international customers.
An expert on pepper said that choosing to buy high-capacity pepper buckets was carefully calculated by Chinese traders. If buying pre-processed pepper with high weight from exporters, they will have to spend about 200-250 USD/ton, while buying pepper in buckets from agents, they will sift through high weight for processing. white pepper, low weight consumption for consumption in the Chinese domestic market.
Because of such benefits, they often directly source goods from agents rather than buying through domestic trading companies. On the contrary, agents also love to sell to these customers because “sometimes” add a little pepper, sloppy, etc., which is also easily accepted by them. According to this expert, it is only a comfortable buying and selling psychology, but the reality is still in the calculation of the market and not all shipments are easily accepted by them.
The fact that Chinese traders have gathered goods has helped pepper prices in the harvest season not fall deeply, also making pepper farmers excited. However, not all pepper growers have enough potential to wait for prices. Mr. Y Blo K’tla, a pepper farmer in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province expressed his regret: Because he needed money to pay his debts, he had to sell early with the price of 53k, less than a week. to 57k, it’s really hard to be a farmer…
Preliminary data released by the Customs industry shows that exports in March 2018 reached 30,068 tons of pepper of all kinds, up 132.5% over the previous month, much higher than the previous estimate of the Agriculture industry. with only about 24 thousand tons. This is also the month that Vietnam’s pepper exports reach a historic record high.
It is expected that pepper prices will only heat up in the short term because the global supply is no longer short of as in previous years. While Vietnam and India, two key producers and exporters of the world pepper industry, have yet to complete the harvest of this year’s pepper crop.
