According to preliminary data reported by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in April 2020 reached 36,176 tons of pepper of all kinds, down 4,121 tons, or 10.23 percent lower than the previous month and down 1,202 tons. , ie down 3.22% over the same period last year.
The export value of pepper in the month reached 72.59 million USD, down 10.46 million USD, or 12.60% decrease compared to the previous month and 20.79 million USD, or 22.27% decrease compared to the previous month. in the same period last year.
The cumulative export volume of pepper in the first 4 months of 2020 reached a total of 116,764 tons of pepper of all kinds, an increase of 8,946 tons, or an increase of 8.26% compared to the export volume of the first 4 months of 2019.
However, in terms of export turnover in the first 4 months of 2020, a total of 248.75 million USD, down 34.09 million USD, or 12.05% decrease over the same period.
The average export price of pepper in April 2020 reached USD 2,007/ton, down 2.62% compared to the average export price of March 2020.
According to statistical data of IPC, world pepper prices in April 2020 in general in some producing countries increased due to the consumption demand of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. In which, Indonesia ranked first with black pepper ASTA increasing by 9.68 % and white pepper FAQ increasing by 6.75 % ; Vietnam ranked next with black pepper 550 Gr/l up 7.46%, black pepper 500 Gr/l up 7.58% and FAQ white pepper up 5.15%. On the contrary, the price of Indian black pepper fell by 1.52% as the pepper growing states started selling the new crop this year.
