According to preliminary data reported by the General Department of Vietnam Customs, pepper exports in May 2020 reached 30,351 tons of pepper of all kinds, down 5,825 tons, or 16.10 percent lower than the previous month and down 7,555 tons. , which is a decrease of 19.93% over the same period last year.
The export value of pepper in the month reached USD 60.9 million, down USD 11.69 million, or 16.1% compared to the previous month and down USD 32.3 million, or a decrease of 34.66% compared to the previous month. in the same period last year.
The cumulative export volume of pepper in the first 5 months of 2020 reached a total of 147,115 tons of pepper of all kinds, an increase of 942 tons, or an increase of 0.64% compared to the export volume of the first 5 months of 2019.
However, in terms of export value in the first 5 months of 2020, a total of 309.33 million USD, down 66.71 million USD, or 17.74% decrease over the same period.
The average export price of pepper in May 2020 reached USD 2,007/ton, equivalent to the average export price of April 2020.
According to statistical data of IPC, world pepper prices in May 2020 generally had mixed fluctuations. The price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 Gr/l-Asta increased by 15%, the price of 550 Gr/l-Asta increased by 14.55%, having the highest increase, while the price of Indonesian black pepper ASTA increased by 5.39 % and the price of black pepper increased by 5.39 %. Indian special black MG1 reduced by 0.52%. The price of Vietnamese white pepper FAQ grade increased by 15.23%, Indonesian white pepper increased by 3.28% while Chinese white pepper decreased by 3.71%.
