In April 2022, the organic Shan Tuyet tea area of Ban Lien commune, Bac Ha district (Lao Cai) is entering the late spring season, there are still many wrong buds. Tea growers here are all excited because of favorable consumption. Fresh bud tea in the spring crop has won a high price, so most households do not have to invest in drying it themselves, take the dried bud tea to markets to sell, but focus on taking care of and picking fresh bud tea and selling it to the Basic Lien Organic Tea Cooperative. .

Mr. Vang A Tinh, tea growing household in Doi 3 village, Ban Lien commune excitedly said; “My family grows 3 hectares of Shan Tuyet tea, mainly tea grown more than 3 years old. I am a member of the Organic Tea Cooperative Ba Lien, so I grow tea according to the instructions of the cooperative in accordance with the technical standards of organic tea. In the spring crop of 2022, I just collected the first batch of more than 100 kg of fresh bud tea, which was purchased by Ba Lien Organic Tea Cooperative for 17,000 VND/kg of fresh bud tea in accordance with the signed commitment. This is a high and stable price for the past 3 years, so everyone believes in joining the cooperative and renovating and taking care of organic Shan tea trees.
Ms. Lam Thi Luyen, who lives in the same village of Doi 3, grows more than 1 ha of organic Shan Tuyet tea and is also a member of the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative. agricultural products are difficult, the price is not stable, while the price of fertilizer is high. Fortunately, the price of tea is still high, stable and fully covered by the cooperative.
This spring crop, Ms. Luyen’s family sold nearly 10 million VND for fresh bud tea at the price of 17,000 VND/kg. The cooperative buys locally, pays quickly, and the price is higher than fresh bud tea in many other communes, so everyone is excited and believes in the tea tree and the cooperative.

Located nearly 30 km from the center of Bac Ha district, Ban Lien commune has a suitable climate, soil and land for growing tea. Ban Lien tea trees have been grown for a long time in Doi 1,2,3,4 villages with an area of over 500 hectares, of which there are 435 hectares of organic tea.
Shan Tuyet tea in Ban Lien is most delicious in the spring crop when the tea buds are mixed with water, beautiful green color, sweet taste and natural aroma, and are popular with consumers. Shan Tuyet tea here has been recognized as the first 5-star OCOP product in Lao Cai.
In 2021, the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative has renovated and improved the quality of tea plants, promoted the construction of organic Shan Tuyet tea products for the remaining nearly 100 hectares of tea, and mobilized people to plant miles. 5 hectares of tea, applying science and technology to organic tea production in accordance with the technical process and standards.
At the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the People’s Committee of Ban Lien commune has propagated and instructed tea growing households to focus on caring and pruning to help high quality spring tea products; Actively signed an overdraft commitment with the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative. As a result, the spring tea crop in 2022 has a high and stable price.

“Currently, the commune has more than 300 households who are members of the Ban Lien Organic Tea Cooperative, with an area of 435 hectares. Currently, the commune government is mobilizing the remaining households with an area of more than 100 hectares of tea to join the cooperative to grow tea. From the tea tree, it will be the key to poverty reduction, striving to bring the commune to a new rural destination”, said Mr. Nguyen Hung Cuong, Chairman of Ban Lien Commune People’s Committee excitedly.
The family of Mr. Lam A Ha, 34 years old in Doi 3 village, Ban Lien commune currently has 5 hectares of tea, in which there are many 30-60 years old tea left by the previous generation. His house is also one of the first 5 homestay households in Ban Lien commune. Mr. Ha has renovated and replanted the ancient tea area.
According to Mr. Ha, a year tea usually picks 3-4 main crops, in which spring tea is delicious and has the highest price. But the self-copying of spring tea and selling it on the free market is still spontaneous, luckily, sometimes it’s okay. Tourists coming here love to experience visiting Shan Tuyet tea hill, picking and processing, buying tea products as gifts.
Shan Tuyet Ban Lien tea area is associated with cultural traditions imbued with Tay ethnic identity, beautiful and majestic natural scenery. Lao Cai province, Bac Ha district has chosen this as a key area for investment and development of homestay community tourism, eco-tourism, gardening, and experiencing the ancient Shan Tuyet tea area.
