Instead of investing a lot of chemical fertilizers and stimulants to grow plants quickly, Huy Hung Farm grows pepper “according to nature”, self-contained cultivation and animal husbandry.

Recently, Huy Hung Farm in Hamlet 7, Dak Ha Commune, Dak Glong District (Dak Nong) was selected as one of the destinations in the Dak Nong Geopark tourist route.

Growing pepper “according to nature”

The rows of pepper grown by living pillars are planned by the farm owner in plots and plots. Watering and fertilizing systems are invested methodically and automatically.

According to Ms. Ha, when the farm was built, the price of pepper was around 200,000 VND/kg, but the family determined to do agriculture in a stable and long-term way, not following the movement.

Ms. Ha shared: Instead of investing in a lot of fertilizers, pesticides, and chemical stimulants to help plants grow quickly and harvest quickly, her family produced pepper naturally. Specifically, the family uses biological products to take care of pepper instead of using fertilizers and pesticides like other households.

According to Ms. Ha, before entering into agriculture, the couple studied many books and went to organic farms to learn.

Due to her experience, before planting pepper, her family took samples of soil and irrigation water and sent them to be tested and analyzed for nutrients and elements. Based on the test results and analysis, Ms. Ha’s family adjusted and processed the ingredients and substances in the soil and water to match the pepper plant.

The selection of seedlings is also a very careful step. The farm buys seedlings at the seed supply addresses certified by specialized agencies to meet standards. Good varieties, proper care in the direction of organic and biological, so pepper gardens rarely get sick, the plants grow green and grow well, with a yield of about 3 tons/ha.

“Compared to traditional investment, the yield of the family’s pepper garden is not high. But in return, the garden has good resistance to diseases, there is no situation of good and bad crops. The farm is certified to meet the standards of ecological farmers. In particular, the farm has been recognized to meet GlobalGAP standards – global good agricultural practice,” proud Ms. Ha.

Ms. Ha added that all pepper products of the farm are purchased by Son Ha Huong Gia Vi Co., Ltd. at a stable price and always higher than the market level. Specifically, if the price of pepper in 2018 and 2019 is at 40,000 – 50,000 VND/kg, the selling price of Duy Hung Farm is 120,000 VND/kg.

At this price, the family earns billions of dong every year. More importantly, the unit’s products always overcome technical barriers and spice standards of international spice associations, exporting to many markets such as the United States, Japan, and Southeast Asian countries. …

Combined cycle of cultivation – breeding

The remarkable point is that Huy Hung Farm combines animal husbandry with farming in the form of “circular”. Accordingly, from the number of leaves of acacia and cottonwood trees as pillars for thousands of pepper plants, Mrs. Ha used it as food for about 100 goats.

Goat manure is composted to fertilize the plants. This not only helps the family save on fertilizer costs, but also ensures a safe and quality fertilizer source for plants, helping the soil not to harden.

At present, goats of the farm provide breed for households in the area. Goats have been ordered by people until the end of the year. Each year, the family gives the people 180 baby goats. Money from selling goat breeds and fertilizer from goats each year gives an income of more than 400 million VND…

Although the profit is high, Ms. Ha said that investing in organic agriculture also faces many difficulties. According to Ms. Ha, the state has a policy to encourage farmers to follow the organic farming model. However, at present, farms have difficulty in finding output.

“The family wishes to build a processing factory to ensure that the farm’s pepper products exported to foreign countries meet the standards. In addition, the farm is also a place for families with organic production to have a place to sell products at a good price,” said Ms. Ha.

However, to do that, she also wants the local government to create conditions in policies and create a sustainable material area.
