According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first five months of 2021, the country’s export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products was estimated at 22.83 billion USD, up 30.3% over the same period last year.
In which, the export of main agricultural products was estimated at 7.78 billion USD, up 13.0%; main forest products reached 7.06 billion USD, up 61.8%; seafood was estimated at 3.24 billion USD, up 12.0%; livestock production was estimated at 166 million USD, up 43.9%.
Typical in the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first 5 months of 2021 are rubber, tea, vegetables and fruits, cashew nut, cassava and cassava products. These items increase both the volume and value of exports. Specifically, rubber products increased by 58.7% in volume and 93.9% in value; tea increased by 6.5% in volume and 10.4% in value; cashew nuts increased by 18.3% in volume, 4.9% in value; cassava and cassava products increased by 15.6% in volume, 27.5% in value.
Regarding the market, currently one of the four major import markets of Vietnam’s agricultural products is the US with 24.6% market share, in the past 5 months, the value in this market increased by 63.6% over the same period last year. Next is the Chinese market with 22.6% market share; Japan accounted for 6.6% market share; Korea holds 4.9% market share.
Assessing the growth in exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the past 5 months, Director of the Department of Agricultural Product Processing and Market Development Nguyen Quoc Toan said that Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products have affirming its position in many valuable markets. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has stepped up negotiations with other countries to connect and promote the export of fruits and seafood to China, Thailand, the EU, etc. to remove difficulties and protect trade in the market. such as the US and China.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic will increase the demand for agricultural products and food in many countries; Besides, the epidemic control in European countries has improved, this market block will be active again and the demand for agricultural products will increase.
