According to the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), the Spanish payment of Vietnamese pepper products is real but in very small quantities.
Spanish authorities have discovered that the concentration of carbendazole fungicide in excess of the permitted limit in a black pepper consignment of a Vietnamese enterprise exported to Spain recently. On the afternoon of February 17, the Vietnam Pepper Association responded to this issue.
According to the Vietnam Pepper Association, the return of products is real but in very small quantities. However, the worry here is that other Vietnamese competitors take advantage of this situation to hurt the reputation of Vietnam's pepper industry.
Mr. Do Ha Nam – Chairman of Vietnam Pepper Association said: “In other countries, it will be used to boycott Vietnamese products and this is the most dangerous thing. Because an event we can prevent in special cases, when supply exceeds demand, people will consider it a technical barrier and will be detrimental to Vietnam's pepper industry ”.
According to Mr. Nam, the pepper infection with fungicides or pesticide residues is partly due to the increasing area of pepper in recent years, making it difficult for us to control the use of pesticides by growers. Partly because we do not have control of pepper right in the country before exporting, it is required to be returned when inspected.
Mr. Do Ha Nam also said: “We have to strengthen by establishing and investing in domestic inspection agencies, businesses also have to build a big key area to control these products. so that quality control is agreed upon between buyer and seller. In this way, we can prevent and guarantee the reputation between buyers and sellers ”.
Europe, including Spain, currently imports a large volume of Vietnamese products of over 40,000 tons, which is a very difficult market and will be more rigorous when Vietnam's rivals such as Indonesia and India increase the pepper growing area. for the more rigorous the controls. In 2015, Vietnam continued to dominate the world pepper market with over 50% of output, valued at over US $ 2.4 billion.
