Michel Barnier, EU chief negotiator, has struggled to win the “attention” of European member states in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic about the need to change tasks “requiring levels of maximum ”in the fisheries sector required by France, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The EU and UK are preparing for a diplomatic resumption next month in the context of the EU and UK both imposing blockade, crisis management and facing the worst recession in 90 past year.
Barnier faced an on-demand heavy-duty fishery task supported by French President Marcon, under which the EU asked Britain to allow fishermen from member states to access British waters.
“Perhaps we should be more realistic about our fisheries stance. This is a matter that needs to be decided at a much higher level, not merely a matter of negotiation between Barnier and Frost – the chief negotiator of England. The COVID-19 pandemic is destroying everything and now every country is focusing all its efforts on the battle against the pandemic instead of Brexit, ”a senior EU diplomatic source said.
