Pepper prices today (June 27) range from 73,000 to 75,500 VND/kg. In the past 6 days, the pepper market fluctuated strongly, localities adjusted the price to increase from 1,000 VND/kg to 2,000 VND/kg.

Compared to the beginning of the week, Gia Lai and Dong Nai provinces both increased by 2,000 VND/kg to 73,000 VND/kg. This is also the lowest price at the moment.

Next, the two provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong are currently purchasing at the same level of 73,500 VND/kg, up 1,000 VND/kg.

Similarly, after an increase of 1,000 – 1,500 VND/kg, the two provinces of Binh Phuoc and Ba Ria – Vung Tau traded at 74,500 VND/kg and 75,500 VND/kg respectively.

Pepper prices on the international market in May recorded an uptrend in most markets. In which, the price of black pepper in India increased by 8% (equivalent to 423 USD/ton), Brazil and Malaysia also increased by 50 – 320 USD/ton compared to the previous month.

The price of Vietnamese black pepper at 500g/l increased by 11% (US$400/ton) to US$3,995/ton. Until June (from June 1 to June 11), the price of black pepper in Vietnam and Malaysia slowed down and went sideways.

Meanwhile, pepper prices in Brazil and Indonesia increased by 1.9% and 2.7% respectively compared to the end of May, reaching $4,000/ton and $3,983/ton. Particularly, the price of black pepper in India decreased by 1%, reaching 5,664 USD/ton.

Thus, with the price increase since the beginning of the year, the price of black pepper in Brazil has increased twice compared to the same period last year; Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam recorded an increase of 50 – 60%; while India increased by 28.7%.

The decrease in supply in Vietnam is believed to be the main factor pushing up world pepper prices in recent years and the price level is currently at the highest level since the end of 2017 until now.
