The cutting of pepper continues to take place in Dong Nai, most people will convert pepper to growing durian, because this fruit has a high price and has been officially exported to China.
On February 20, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province said that in the past five years, farmers in the province have cut down about 5,600 hectares of pepper.
In 2018, the pepper area of Dong Nai was nearly 17,000 hectares, but now it has decreased to about 11,400 hectares.
In addition, due to the low price of pepper, Dong Nai farmers reduce investment and do not pay attention to caring for pepper gardens, which causes the current pepper yield to decrease by about 30% compared to before.
It is forecasted that the cutting of pepper will continue to take place in Dong Nai, most people will convert pepper to growing durian, because this fruit has a high price and has been officially exported to China. Country.
Before 2018, the price of pepper increased, so farmers in Dong Nai massively cut down many trees to grow pepper. Due to hot development, the pepper area in the province exceeded the planning by thousands of hectares.
In recent years, the price of pepper has been continuously maintained at a low level, while this plant requires a lot of care and is susceptible to pests and diseases, so farmers are no longer interested in pepper.
In addition, during the period of high pepper price, people race to grow this crop, many households grow pepper on unsuitable land with low productivity.
In previous years, people cut down pepper to grow jackfruit and pomelo. At present, these fruits have decreased in price, and farmers have switched to growing durian.
Statistics from Dong Nai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development show that in 2018, the whole province of Dong Nai had about 15,000ha of jackfruit, pomelo and durian (about 5,000ha each), but so far, the province has more than 9,000ha. jackfruit, over 10,300ha of pomelo and nearly 11,500ha of durian.
Pepper is the main crop of Dong Nai with export markets around the world.
The agriculture industry recommends that people only cut down old pepper, absolutely do not cut down newly planted, well-harvested pepper.
To increase profits, farmers calculate intercropping other crops in pepper gardens. At the same time, reducing production costs by thoroughly applying science and technology to farming; strengthen linkages and apply clean and safe production processes to increase the value of pepper.
