In recent times, the sudden rains of the season occurred, causing durian cotton to be removed in mass. This situation is taking place in some localities in Da Huoai district, Lam Dong province, causing durian growers to be worried.
At this time in some localities such as: Ha Lam, Da P’Loa and Da M’ri town of Da Huoai district, Lam Dong province are making cotton and pistil to make the second fruit.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hong Diep’s family, living in hamlet 2, Ha Lam commune, is planting more than 24 hectares of durian. According to Mr. Diep, the time when the durian garden is in the stage of the eye making the second flower, the sunny weather is suitable for durian cotton to develop. However, the right season rains at the time of durian gardens are pistil, causing durian cotton to remove joints, wither withered, so the risk of productivity is unavoidable.
Similarly, Mr. Dang Huy Bo’s family (Ha Lam commune), with 2.2 hectares of durian, of which about 20% of the 2nd stigma area encountered the left season, so they all lost. Currently, the remaining durian area is in the bud and about 4 to 5 days will be pistil. But, with complicated weather, he worried him.
According to durian farmers, each season has 3 waves of fruit trees to make fruit. Over the past 1 week, durian gardens in Ha Lam commune are in the pistil period to make the second batch of the 2025 season. This is the most important fruit, accounting for more than 50% of the durian crop yield in 2025. But when the durian gardens are suddenly encountered the fruit rains that stimulate the development of the tree tops to remove the joints.
Mr. Phan Quang Thuc, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ha Lam commune, Da Huoai district, said: Ha Lam commune is considered the “heart” of the durian capital of Da Huoai district, with more than 2,300 hectares of durian, of which the area is in a business period of more than 1,800 ha.
Preliminary statistics in the second fruit of the 2025 crop, in the commune, there are about 50% of the durian area being removed. Although there is still a durian tree out of cotton, but the durian gardens have shed cotton people no longer choose to nourish the fruit, the image towards productivity makes people very worried.
According to Mr. Thuc, currently the locality is in collaboration with Da Huoai District Agriculture Department to guide people to implement measures to brake the tops so that durian trees have enough nutrients to nourish fruit in the next cotton launch.
It is known that, in addition to Ha Lam commune, Da P’loa commune and Da M’ri town with a large durian area of Da Huoai district also occurred the rainy season, causing durian gardens to be removed in the second fruit.
