The price of durian continuously decreases deep, causing growers to worry, especially the harvest is approaching.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Vegetable Association, said that the price of durian has decreased sharply due to China, Vietnam’s largest durian consumption market tightened the control process from the beginning of the year.
“China not only requires quality testing of heavy metals such as cadmi and y gold, a substance that is at risk of cancer, but also increases the rate of testing from 10% to 100% of each shipment. Not only strict, the test time is prolonged, the goods are invented at the border gate. Large amount, ”Mr. Nguyen said.
Mr. Nguyen recommends that farmers need to use fertilizers in accordance with the standards, avoiding smuggled fertilizers containing banned substances. The poor quality fertilizer production units need to be strictly checked and handled. In addition, farmers actively tested from the garden before harvesting. Safety from the root will help reduce risks in the final testing stage. The Plant Protection Department has directed to strengthen the monitoring of planting areas and packaging facilities. Units that do not meet the regulations on drug residues, heavy metals or traceability will be stopped for export codes, prerequisites to keep Vietnamese fruit foothold in the international market.
The durian area of Vietnam is about 150 – 170,000 hectares, of which more than 70% of the area has been given, the total output is about 1.2 million tons or more. “Although the price of durian inched up, it was still very low compared to the time when the highest price in November 2024 was 185,000 VND/kg,” Trung said.
Before the low durian price made the growers worried, on April 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment issued a document instructing the implementation of Lam Dong Province to control the quality control of durian for export in the 2025 crop.
The unit is also studying the establishment of branches of local analyzers to facilitate sampling and testing. These branches will operate under the socialization mechanism, serving the state management.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also assigns the Department of Quality, Processing and Development of the Market to receive, evaluate and appoint food testing rooms. Up to now, a total of 49 laboratories have been designated. Of which 15 units tested gold and 33 Cadimi testing units in agricultural products. The list of testing rooms, including Cadimi and Golden Om in jackfruit and durian, has been widely notified by the Plant Protection and Plant Protection Department to the shippers and packaging facilities nationwide.
The General Department of Customs of China has also announced the supplement or restoration of experiments that have been suspended. It is known that in Lam Dong province, there is a total durian area of more than 20,000 hectares, of which the area in the business phase is 10,844 hectares, the harvested output of nearly 124,000 tons.
