Coffee prices showed signs of recovery after the US decided to postpone the reciprocal tax rate of 46%, only imposing import taxes from Vietnamese goods at 10%.

According to the National Coffee Association (NCA), the coffee industry is contributing about US $ 343 billion per year to the US economy, with about 75% of Americans drink coffee regularly. Over the past decades, coffee has been to the United States without tax due to the industry of this country depends entirely on import sources, unable to produce itself in the country. Therefore, the US tax on all countries provided will cause coffee prices in the US to increase by at least 50% or higher.

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment officially proposed the US to consider exemption from a number of Vietnamese agricultural and fishery products, including coffee. This is a positive information for Vietnamese farmers, especially in the context that farmers are actively holding goods because they are concerned that the supply has been tightened for the past four years.

The price is spectacularly increasing

The price of pepper today 12/4 in the country is at 153,000 – 155,000 VND/kg. Pepper prices in some key growing areas increased sharply from 4,000 to 5,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

On the world market, the price of all kinds of Vietnamese types is stable compared to yesterday. The price of black pepper type 500 gr/l reaches 6,600 USD/ton; Type 550 gr/l reaches 6,800 USD/ton.

The export volume of pepper in March is estimated at 20,000 tons with a value of 139.2 million USD, bringing the total volume and export value of pepper in the first 3 months of the year to more than 47,000 tons and 323.6 million USD, down 16.7% in volume but an increase of 37.3% in value compared to the same period in the same period in 2024.

The average export price of pepper in the first 3 months was estimated at more than 6,845 USD/ton, up 64.9% over the same period in 2024.

According to the Vietnam Association of Pepper and Spices (VPSA), Vietnam has certain advantages when Vietnam pepper is not competing with American farmers or businesses that do not produce pepper because of inappropriate natural conditions. Whether the US imposed on tax or not, the global market is still in shortage of supply, which will support the price of pepper increases in medium and long term.
