According to the report of the Department of Statistics (Ministry of Finance), in April 2025, agricultural and forestry production focused mainly on tending winter -spring crops in the Northern localities; harvesting rice, crops in the winter -spring crop and summer -autumn rice cultivation in the southern localities; Planting forests comply with plans and exploitation of timber has been promoted.

Focus on sowing summer -autumn rice

As of April 20, 2025, the whole country planted 2,968.0 thousand hectares of winter -spring rice, an increase of 15.7 thousand hectares compared to the winter -spring crop last year. The Northern localities planted 1,051.2 thousand hectares, down 7.9 thousand hectares mainly due to land acquisition to build projects and industrial parks, convert crops from rice to other crops to achieve higher economic efficiency.

The southern localities planted 1,916.8 thousand hectares, an increase of 23.6 thousand hectares compared to the winter -spring crop thanks to favorable weather, less affected by saline intrusion, so people actively descended to maximize the area.

Due to the good implementation of the care right from the time of cultivation, most winter -spring rice areas grow and develop well. Up to now, the southern localities harvested 1,644.0 thousand hectares of winter -spring rice, accounting for 85.0% of the cultivated area and equal to 99.7% over the same period last year, in which the Mekong Delta area harvested 1,471.3 thousand hectares, accounting for 97.6% and equaling 101.1%.

“The progress of summer -autumn rice cultivation is faster than the same period last year because many localities harvest early winter -spring rice crop and comply with the seasonal seasons to avoid salinity.”

For the summer -autumn rice crop, after harvesting the winter -spring rice, the southern localities took advantage of the favorable weather to clean the fields, plow and dry the soil to go down to the summer -autumn crop. As of April 20, 2025, the southern localities planted 719.9 thousand hectares of summer -autumn rice, equal to 105.1% in the same period last year; In which the Mekong Delta region reaches 715.9 thousand hectares, equal to 105.1%.

Some localities have faster summer -autumn rice cultivation schedule than the same period last year: An Giang equals 122.4%; Long An equals 107.7%; Dong Thap is 107.5%… However, the summer -autumn crop in the provinces of the South, Central and Central Highlands is more likely to be affected by saline intrusion, heat, drought, and water shortage, so localities need to apply advanced farming techniques, ensure water for rice water, review the crop structure and adjust the planting season to ensure the best season frame for the next crop.

Buffalo farming decreased due to low economic efficiency, long -term farming cycle, not attracting farmers to re -herd. Cow breeding tends to produce large -scale, technology application and business linkage. Poultry breeding well developed, some chicken farms connected with businesses consumed, forming a closed chain from the farm to the dining table, contributing to promoting the development of animal husbandry. Pig breeds are developed thanks to the effective control of African swine cholera, and the demand for consumption increases sharply during the holidays to motivate farmers to re -culture, invest in renovating barns, apply biosafety measures to improve productivity and product quality.
